Anti‐Ragging Committee

Anti-Ragging Committee

List of members, their designation and role in the committee

Introduction

Ragging is a serious offence in educational institutions and is strictly banned under Indian law. The The Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997 (as adopted in various states) and the Ragging of Students (Prevention) Act, 2009 of many universities make ragging a punishable act. The University Grants Commission (UGC) also issued regulations titled UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, which underlines that every institution must constitute an anti-ragging committee, display member details, and ensure strict preventive measures.

The objectives of the Anti-Ragging Committee are:

  • To ensure that no student is subjected to ragging in any form.
  • To promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students.
  • To promptly address complaints, conduct enquiry, and take disciplinary action as required.
  • To create awareness among students, parents and staff about the consequences of ragging.

All students, faculty and staff of the institution are required to cooperate fully with the committee. Any act of ragging — whether physical, verbal, psychological or via electronic means — will be dealt with strictly in accordance with law and institution policy.
